Venue Information

ISSOTL 2013 was held at the Raleigh Convention Center. The main ISSOTL hotel was the new Raleigh Marriott City Center, which is connected to the Convention Center. Additional rooms were available at the renovated Sheraton Raleigh Hotel located adjacent to the Convention Center. The deadline for securing rooms at the discounted conference rate was 11:50 PM Eastern on Monday, September 2, 2013.

Just 20 minutes away from downtown Raleigh, Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) features numerous carriers offering direct service to 37 destinations. An East Coast hub, RDU offers nearly 450 daily arrivals and departures on nine major and 16 regional carriers. International flights include London and Toronto.

RDU is located about 15 miles from downtown Raleigh.

Raleigh-Durham (RDU) International Airport, consistently ranked among the most efficient airports in North America, serves Raleigh and the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina.

RDU is located along the western edge of Wake County, nearest to Morrisville, The Research Triangle Park and Cary: it is midway between downtown Raleigh and downtown Durham.

RDU’s two main terminals (Terminal 1 and Terminal 2) currently offer more than 370 daily arrivals and departures on eight major airlines and nineteen regional carriers, with 40 other airports connected by 180 non-stop daily flights.

The airport also provides the latest technology, dining, shopping and services to make your travel experience more convenient and enjoyable.  At RDU, arriving passengers find a variety of transportation options, ranging from SuperShuttle to airport taxis to rental cars to buses and other transportation services.

CLT is located about 3 hours from downtown Raleigh.

Charlotte Douglas received the prestigious Eagle Award in 2010 from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) for “Best Airport.” It is considered the most distinguished of awards in the aviation industry. Charlotte Douglas was recognized for its quality service and economical value to airline customers.

This year, the Airport launched CLT 2015. It includes a new 7,000 parking space deck, expansion of Departures/Ticketing and Arrivals/Baggage Claim and roadway in front of the terminal. The terminal expansion will accommodate additional checkpoint lanes and reconfigure the ticket counters and the Arrivals/Baggage Claim lobby.

Getting to and From Airport

Hotel shuttle service for the Marriott and Sheraton is not available. However arriving passengers will find a variety of transportation options to get you from the airport to your hotel or the Raleigh Convention Center, ranging from shuttles to airport taxis to rental cars to buses and other transportation services:

RDU Taxi Service

RDU Taxi, Inc. is the sole, licensed taxi service provider for Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Metered fares and customer service standards are implemented and monitored by the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. The average trip between RDU International Airport and downtown Raleigh costs approximately $35.

Locating a Taxi at RDU

Taxi dispatchers are located outside the terminals at RDU. The Terminal 1 Taxi Dispatch Booth is located outside the ticketing area. At Terminal 2, the booth is located on the lower level outside Bag Claim 1.

You can also schedule a taxi pick-up or make a reservation by contacting RDU Taxi, Inc. at (919) 840-7277. Handicap-accessible vehicles are available upon request.

Transportation Services at RDU

Many companies are permitted to provide transportation services from Raleigh-Durham International Airport. These include

  • Personal Transportation Services (private car)
  • Executive Car and Group Services
  • Shared Transportation Services

Some of the private car service companies most frequently serving the Raleigh Convention Center area include ABC Worldwide, Blue Diamond, Eco Style, Elite, Harrison and White Horse.  Shared ride services serving the immediate downtown and convention center areas include Sky Shuttle, Inc. and Skylink Shuttle.

Rental Cars at RDU

Obtaining a rental car is easy at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Each of the eight rental car companies operating here offer courtesy shuttles to their offices, which are located on airport property.

Catch the shuttle bus for your rental car company at the green Rental Car shuttle stops outside bag claim at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Need to make a reservation upon arrival? Use the Reservation and Accommodations Board in Bag Claim in Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.

Bus and Rail Service To and From RDU

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is located in the center of the Research Triangle Region. Triangle Transit Route 100 provides public bus service from RDU to its Regional Transit Center, where riders can connect to bus routes throughout the region.

At RDU, pick up Triangle Transit service outside Terminal 1 and on the lower level outside bag claim at Terminal 2.

Triangle Transit Route 100 provides service to Downtown Raleigh and costs only $2. Stop #6 on Route 100 is Moore Square Station. From there, you can walk (~6 blocks), or take the free R-Line bus to the Convention Center stop.

Getting Around Raleigh

Local Taxi Service

Taxicab meter rates in Raleigh are $4.20 for the first mile and 25¢ for each additional 1/10-mile. The average trip between RDU International Airport and downtown Raleigh costs approximately $35. Raleigh Convention Center attendees will also find cabs plentiful and on the Cabarrus Street side of the building.

R-Line - Downtown Circulator

The R-LINE is complimentary bus service in the immediate downtown business district area and runs every 10-12 minutes.  For R-Line information or to download the R-LINE anytime app see http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/get-around/r-line. The R-Line has 20 stops throughout the 5 downtown districts, including Glenwood South, Capital District, Warehouse District, Fayetteville Street District and Moore's Square District. The service will operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 2:15 a.m. Thursday through Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.  Route begins outside the Convention Center.

Visa Information

Letter of Invitation/Letter Confirming Registration

International attendees may need a letter of “invitation” in order to obtain a visa to visit the United States. If you need a letter confirming your registration or confirming your invitation to present, this can be provided. Letters will only be issued after you have been selected to present AND after you have registered and paid conference registration fees. To request a letter, please send an email to [email protected] with “Request for letter for visa application” as the subject header. The body of this email must include the following:

  • First (given) name
  • Last (family) name
  • Date and place of birth
  • Complete mailing address
  • Telephone number
  • Email address
  • If possible, contact info for your representative at the Embassy

Once we have received your request, we will verify your registration and payment of fees and will issue a PDF signed letter.

We strongly advise you to start the visa application process as early as possible, and to submit your application at least 8 weeks in advance of your departure date. You are also encouraged to check the processing times for the mission responsible for processing your visa, as processing times vary. Kindly note: the event organizer will not be able to contact or intervene with Embassy or Consulate offices on your behalf.
